Art Ride

Public Art Bike Tours - Experience art on two wheels. Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop leads a series of easy bike rides exploring public art and architecture downtown and on the UT campus. Each day is a different docent-led tour in partnership with the City of Austin Art in Public Places, UT Landmarks the Public Art Program of the University of Texas, and Art Alliance Austin. Rental bikes are available. Collector Badge holders receive free bike rentals for tours, subject to availability. RSVP required and online rental reservations at mellowjohnnys.com. All rides depart from Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop 400 Nueces St. Helmets are required.

Wednesday, Apr 21 12pm-1pm Art + Architecture

Enjoy art on two wheels. Explore downtown buildings you know and love, then head to the hike and bike trail to discover a hidden architectural wonder. The tour will then head east to the HOPE Farmer's Market and Plaza Saltillo and conclude with the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless.


Thursday, Apr 22 6pm-7:30pm East Side Art in Public Places

Join us for a happy hour tour with its first stop outside of Domy Books for new work by David Ellis NY Graffiti Muralist and Magda Sayeg 2010 Commissioned Art Week Austin artist. Also included is the Terrazas Library, Holly Street Power Plant, and Mexican American Cultural Center. The tour will end at The Starr Building for Pecha Kucha Night Austin (see Pecha Kucha Night Austin for details).


Friday, Apr 23 12pm-1pm Downtown Art in Public Places

Take a ride down to the Palmer Events Center and then to see one of the newest Art In Public Places works, The Outdoor Room near the Seaholm Power Plant. View Magda Sayeg's latest yarn bomb commissioned by Art Alliance Austin, as you stroll along the Lance Armstrong Bikeway. The tour will end at Republic Square Park for Paul Druecke's "The Perfect Recipe: Bake Sale Tea Party."


Saturday, Apr 24 8:30am-11am UT Landmarks: The public art program of the University of Texas

Join Landmarks for an easy ride around campus and visit Landmarks public art projects. Members of the Landmarks Docents will guide the rides. Optional ride to Art City Austin festival site upon completion of the campus tour.
