Beyond the Bio is a series that takes you past the canvas and into the minds of the artists and curators who build the contemporary arts community.

Artist: Ted Carey

Primary Medium: Sculpture, sound

What motivates your work?

My thoughts are glacial, but my actions volcanic. Entropy is erotic and gravity is a tyrant. The honesty of rocks and the anxiety of time guide my creative compass.

Why sculpture & sound?

I’m less interested in adding more things to the world than in seeing what’s already present in a new light.

How long have you been an artist and how has your practice changed over time?

My core themes seem to blossom eternally, hopefully their expression becomes consistently more refined.

What are you working on right now?

I’m working on new sculptures for Art of the Brew and several site specific locations during EAST.

What does the Austin arts community need most as the city continues to grow?

More concrete connection with local political action and community rights groups. Expanding and overlapping the arts microcosm with the political.
