Art Alliance Austin is currently offering 4 internship opportunities: 1) Marketing / Communications / Website / Design Intern, 2) Development Intern, 3) Curatorial Intern, 4) Events / Public Programming Intern

 

All internships are part-time and unpaid.

Specific Internship Postings:

 

1. Marketing / Communications / Website / Design Intern

Art Alliance Austin seeks a Marketing Intern to work closely with our staff and leadership to perform a wide variety of duties related to communications. Interns support our staff in website management and updating, including some content creation, writing ad-copy, and some design work. Additional, work includes coordinating project timelines with our PR contractor and media buyer. This internship is located at the Art Alliance offices, though some work can be performed remotely.

Qualifications specific to position

  • Experience with WordPress websites
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus

 

2.  Social Media Intern / Community Manager

Art Alliance Austin seeks a Marketing Intern to work closely with our staff and leadership to lead and manage social media communications. We currently utilize Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Additionally, we launched a weekly calendar / e-mag listing of free art openings called Austin Art Weekly. The e-mag has an editor, but there is collaboration necessary and support for that publication is desirable.

Position includes content creation, writing ad-copy, and some design work. This internship is located at the Art Alliance offices downtown, though much of the work can be performed remotely.

The goal of this internship is to provide on-the-job training in a fast-paced arts nonprofit. We’re able to discuss strategy and how to make social media pay off with tracking for tickets, donations, and engagement through analytics.  We seek a self motivated problem solver who can understand the very delicate nuances of social media marketing. By the end of the program the intern will have gained experience as a community manager, learned how to use and integrate multiple platforms, and analyzed statistics.

Details of the position

  • Twitter: ArtAllianceATX has ~8,000 followers with ~5 posts per week
  • Facebook: Art Alliance Austin has about ~3,500 followers with ~5 posts per week
  • Austin Art Weekly is mailed to over 6,000 people every Wednesday at 3pm (via Mailchimp)
  • Basic understanding of WordPress is a plus, though it can be trained
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus

3. Development Intern

Art Alliance Austin seeks a Development Intern to assist with the implementation of key development strategies and programs, supporting existing staff in the maintenance and growth of the Alliance’s membership, earned income opportunities, and special events. This position offers unique insight into the overall operations of nonprofit membership and development operations.

Responsibilities include maintaining current membership information as well as facilitating membership communications, renewal mailings and member solicitation efforts. The development intern will also be involved in the execution of openings and special events, and will work closely with Alliance staff and board members. Some evenings are required for special events.

Qualifications specific to position

  • Experience with development software a plus, we use DonorPerfect

 

4.Curatorial Intern

Art Alliance Austin seeks a Curatorial Intern to work closely with our staff and leadership to perform a wide variety of duties related to projects and events. Interns conduct library and online research on artists and assigned topics, maintain artist files, request information from national and international galleries, draft artist correspondence, respond to public inquiries, write educational materials, file, copy, and complete general administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications specific to position

  • Demonstrated ability to write about art – please submit a brief (< 2 page) writing sample with application materials
  • A background in studio art or art history is preferred
  • Specific knowledge of Austin’s visual art scene is a plus

 

5. Special Events / Public Programming

Art Alliance Austin seeks a Special Events / Public Programming Intern to our staff and leadership to perform a wide variety of duties related to projects and events. Interns assist in project management, coordination, and execution. Art Alliance works in a variety of places with many different partners and the intern assists in managing these many relations. Some evenings are required for special events.

Qualifications specific to position

  • Strong partnership-building and event planning skills

 

Working Conditions

Art Alliance Austin is a small team environment with many volunteers and committees that aid in event production. Some work is done outside of the office and outside of normal business hours, including some evenings and weekends.

 

Compensation

All internships are part-time and unpaid.
