Beyond the Bio is a series that takes you past the canvas and into the minds of the artists and curators who build the contemporary arts community.
Houston gallery Yvonamor Palix Fine Arts will be featured at Art City Austin: Art Alliance Austin’s 3-day art fair from March 31st – April 2nd at the Palmer Events Center.
Gallery Name: Yvonamor Palix Fine Arts
Location: Houston, TX
What prompted the start of Yvonamor Palix Fine Arts?
I studied Art History, then worked at Galería Riol in Madrid for a while and did some curatorial projects. I realised that I had a particular vision on art and that I needed to create a platform for the artists of my generation, so then I opened l’Espace D’art Yvonamor Palix in the Bastille area of Paris 13, rue Keller in 1990. Later opened a branch in 1998 in Mexico City in the famed Colonia Roma.
What services and products do you offer?
The promotion of artists, secondary market for Latin American art, private consulting and art talks.
What guides you in selecting artist to represent? What qualities do you look for?
My instinct plus knowledge of art history guide me primarily. I look for originality, skill, a well developed and interesting concept and dedication.
What new artists are you excited about today?
I am excited to work with Emilie Duval a French multimedia artist and Jane Liang an incredible conceptual hyper realist painter. I also have enjoyed discovering some amazing Texas talent like Page Piland who has a long history in the Austin-Houston art world and whose art is very unique he fuses minimalism and hyper realism as well as painting and sculpture on his canvas’.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about buying their first piece of serious original art?
Buy what truly appeals to you. An art collection is a very personal story. It is easy to look at sales results, but more a challenge to develop and understand one’s own aesthetic taste.
